We teamed up with Shell to create a visually stunning mixed-media film for “The Giving Pump” campaign.
The initiative, which spans over 7,500 Shell stations, encourages consumers to support children’s charities by fueling up at designated pumps. Directed by Gustavo Leal and Faga Melo from Dirty Work, the film uniquely blends stop-motion and animation to convey the powerful message of how everyday actions, like filling up at Shell, can positively impact children’s lives.
Set in a child’s room, the film presents a world where toys come to life, symbolizing the joy and hope Shell’s initiative aims to bring to children. The playful yet emotionally resonant narrative was crafted to appeal to adults while capturing the imaginative spirit of childhood.
Dirty Work’s direction perfectly balanced the campaign’s message, visualizing how small contributions at the pump can make a significant difference.
The film’s production was a complex blend of stop-motion, live-action, and CG animation. To ensure smooth transitions between these elements, motion control technology was employed, allowing for precise camera movements. We meticulously planned each scene, using 3D printing and a 2D animatic to guide the process.
The collaboration between live-action and animation teams ensured a cohesive visual experience, which was ultimately shared across multiple platforms, reaching a wide audience.
