Genesis of the Project

The collaboration between Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and Marshmello began after featuring Marshmello in a “Robot Chicken” sketch. This initial partnership sparked the idea of creating an epic sci-fi short film. The team aimed to explore themes of depression, isolation, and the impact of social media’s “noise” on individuals, all within a sci-fi/adventure framework reminiscent of classics like “Captain EO.”

Visual Style and Influences

The film adopts a “Western Anime” aesthetic, aiming for a mature yet visually captivating style. Directors Roberts and Towner emphasized a collaborative approach, allowing Le Cube to lead the visual development while incorporating specific compositing and storyboard techniques. The result is a seamless blend of influences, creating a unique visual experience.

The team also experimented with camera treatments, textures, lenses, depth of field, and lighting to impart shape, mood, and depth to the world, drawing inspiration from stop-motion cinematography.
