Tree Correspondents

Hyundai | Tree Correspondents

Tree Correspondents is Hyundai’s Cannes-winning project that gives trees a voice — part of the brand’s IONIQ Forest Initiative, a long-term global program dedicated to reforestation and biodiversity.

Extending beyond awareness, it uses AI to transform ecological data into first-person narratives told by the trees themselves.

The initiative spans 13 countries and has already planted over one million trees, building a global movement around the idea that technology and storytelling can reconnect us to the natural world.

We proudly teamed up with FCB New York and Hyundai bringing this vision to life, leading the entire production for the Brazilian segment of the documentary and overseeing all post-production across the full film. Our team handled the mixed-media animation sequences, the overall design system, and the editing of the final piece. The result is a seamless fusion of live-action, design, and AI-driven storytelling that amplifies the emotional impact of the campaign.

In the project, sensors were installed on trees in Brazil, Korea, and the Czech Republic to collect environmental data — from photosynthesis levels to soil moisture and local climate. A custom large language model (LLM) then transformed this data into human-like stories, allowing each tree to share its own experience. Through this blend of science, technology, and creativity, Tree Correspondents builds empathy between humans and nature, helping audiences see forests not just as ecosystems, but as living storytellers.

The campaign has been viewed over 86 million times on YouTube and earned top recognition at major international festivals — including two Gold Lions and one Silver Lion at Cannes 2025, and one Grand LIA, two Golds, and one Bronze at the London International Awards. For Final Frontier, it stands as a milestone project that combines our expertise in filmmaking, design, and storytelling with Hyundai’s vision of Progress for Humanity — creating work that is both technologically innovative and deeply human.

We have a genuine passion for documentaries, and being part of a project that unites a meaningful cause with such an innovative use of technology was truly special for us. Tree Correspondents allowed us to bring together our skills in design and animation — but, above all, to contribute our love for storytelling in a way that inspires people to reconnect with nature.
